  • Empower A South African Student

Date Added: Jul 1st, 2008 • By Circle Up Now

We need your help to empower a South African student with a meal, a drum, and the opportunity to honor Nelson Mandela on his 90th birthday!

On July 15th, 2,200 South African students gathered in a field in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg, to participate in a community building workshop addressing the global food crisis. This event culminated in a large-scale human aerial artwork, depicting Nelson Mandela, with a message of “Freedom From Hunger”, surrounded by the world’s largest ‘Ubuntu’ drumming circle. A framed aerial photo and a video tribute from the event will be presented to Nelson Mandela at his 90th Birthday Party on July 18th.

The intent of this event and experience was to empower South African youth with the knowledge of what human rights are, why they are entitled to them, and why they need to ask their governments to protect their people from hunger.

    Your $22 Can Help!

    * Your tax deductible contribution of $22 helps to underwrite the cost of a meal and a drum that each participating South African youth will bring back to their community.

    * The reintroduction and training of thousands of youth drummers will help restore culture in communities still recovering from the drumming prohibition during Apartheid.

Circle Up Now is a 501(c)[3] non-profit organization. The donation you make will be 100% tax-deductible and can be made on behalf of yourself or another individual.
