    Ilya combines a sense of technique with an eye for light and his interest in people. People set against a background of their struggle to find a way in life are frequently the subject of his photos. After his study at the KABK (Royal Academy of Arts) in The Hague, Netherlands, he worked as a trainee for Amnesty International and then settled as an independent. With his series of portraits titled People and Human Rights he won the silver camera award for portraits in 2001.
